The Delhi police crime branch are investigating the antecedents of Jyoti Reddy alias Ritu, who claims to be a former Miss Bangalore 1999.
Reddy was arrested on Tuesday in south Delhi for prostitution. She was later let off on a Rs 15,000 bail.
"She told us during interrogation that she had participated in an inter college beauty competition and she was crowned Miss Bangalore in 1999," Dependra Pathak, deputy commissioner of police (Crime and Railways), said.
"We are in touch with the Bangalore police on this matter. We are verifying her statements through other sources as well," Pathak said. "In fact, we are also looking into the background of those who stood as surety for her in the court."
Reddy is expected to appear before the court on July 9.
