The moderate All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq on Wednesday hailed the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s statement in which he had spoken ‘of the need to take everybody forward within the ambit of humanity’.

Mirwaiz was addressing a seminar at the uptown Rajbagh headquarters of the APHC on Wednesday morning.

He described Vajpayee’s statement as 'historic' and hinted that his group ‘would cooperate in case government of India followed the Vajpayee initiative’.

The

APHC chairman said if India and Pakistan would hold serious negotiations on suggestions put forth by the APHC, the conglomerate would extend its full cooperation for such a process.

Mirwaiz said the APHC can exist as a bridge between India and Pakistan in a bid to fully restore the relations between the two countries.

He said the mainstream political parties who are ‘continuing with the policy of divide and rule should realise that the time has come that Kashmir issue cannot be put in cold storage’.
