Militants shot at and killed a 20-year-old woman in south Kashmir's Shopian district late on Tuesday evening.

A senior police officer said militants forced their entry into a house in the Keller village, 54 kilometers from Srinagar, late on Tuesday evening.

"Militants fired at Sheeraza Akhtar, a 20-year-old woman after forcing their entry into her house. They fired pistol rounds from a close range killing the victim instantaneously," the officer said.

He said Sheeraza had received a fatal bullet wound in her head.

Shopian town was on the boil on Tuesday after thousands of people marched in the town shouting anti-Central Bureau of Investigation slogans.

The CBI report has ruled out rape and murder of the 17-year old Asiya Jan and her 22-year old sister-in-law Neelofar Jan.
