Ten Central Industrial Security Force personnel, including an assistant commandant, were booked on Friday for allegedly thrashing four policemen and kidnapping them in south Mumbai, the police said.

An FIR was registered against the CISF men, including Assistant Commandant Alok Joshi, who badly assaulted four constables and one of them was even confined to a room belonging to the security force, Senior Inspector R Bhogale said.

Police Constable Pramod Tawde was manning the traffic outside Orange gate of Mumbai Port Trust when he saw a truck heading towards the gate plying in a wrong direction.

"Tawde intercepted the truck and asked the driver to show his license. CISF men objected to it and told Tawde to allow the truck to enter," Bhogale said.

"However, Tawde said the truck would be allowed to go only after interrogating the driver. This led to a heated argument between CISF jawan Kalyan Singh and Tawde. Singh thrashed the constable and after sometime, some more CISF jawans joined the fight. Tawde was dragged inside the MPT premises and confined to a room," he said.

Two more traffic constables and one from Yellow Gate police station, who went to the spot after learning about the incident, were also assaulted by the CISF men, including Joshi, with bamboos and guns, the inspector said.

"When we reached there, all four police constables were injured and Tawde was rushed to nearby hospital with severe injuries," he added.

The accused were booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code.

No immediate arrests were made, he said, adding further probe was on.
