London Mayor Ken Livingstone wants to put up a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the city.

Livingstone, who is scheduled to visit India in November, hopes to follow up the building of a 9-ft bronze statue of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela in Parliament Square with a similar tribute to Gandhi in a nearby location.

According to Livingstone, the statue will be a huge tourist attraction and boost the United Kingdom's links with India.

The London mayor had recently organised a three-month long 'India Now' festival.
