Congress leader and Union minister Kapil Sibal said at a press conference in New Delhi that the government has told the court that it had no clue about the source of income of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and how she accumulated this wealth. They could order a probe into the source of her money.

Sibal was speaking to media-persons at his residence.

"After all she has to explain how she got this money," Sibal said. Sibal claimed that Mayawati and the Bharatiya Janata Party had a tacit understanding in the state assemly polls and  Mayawati hoped that the BJP would come to power and bail her out.

Sibal found nothing wrong in the announcement made by Petroleum minister Murli Deora that petrol prices might drop.

This does not violate the election code of conduct according to Sibal. "Deora has not induced anyone or offered to get votes by giving incentive to the voters. So para-vii in power sub part(vi)does not apply," Sibal said.

Sibal denied that state government was using its constitutional authority and preventing the opposition parties from holding meetings.
