In a new turn in the RTI activist Shehla Masood murder case, one of the prime accused and alleged contract killer, Irfan, on Thursday told special CBI court in Indore that he wanted to record his confessional statement.
The court gave him 48 hours to think seriously about it, before his statement could be recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
"Irfan has expressed desire to record his confessional statement under section 164 of the CrPC before the Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Dr Shubhra Singh," CBI lawyer Hemant Shukla told media persons.
The court, after giving him time to think it over, sent him to jail under judicial remand till April 3. The magistrate also ordered that Irfan be kept in a separate barrack.
He was produced in the court as his remand ended on Thursday. The alleged contact killer also expressed wish to meet his family members, but the court has not taken any decision on it yet.
The CBI also produced in the court another accused, Saqib Ali (Danger), who was sent to the Indore's Central Jail under judicial remand till March 26.
The prosecution requested the court to allow CBI to take his voice sample, which the court allowed.
So far, five accused have been arrested in the case, including the Bhopal-based interior designer Zahida Pervez, her confidant Saba Faroqui and a suspected killer, Tabish Khan.
According to CBI's preliminary probe, Pervez had Masood killed out of jealousy, as she could not stand latter's growing closeness to BJP MLA Dhruv Narayan Singh.Masood murder: Another accused remanded to CBI custody
