A 30-page suicide note was found on him, indicating he was steeped in debt because of cricket betting.

A 39-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near Parliament complex on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Dayal Verma, a native of Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh.

The police have recovered a 30-page suicide note that, at first glance, indicates he was steeped in debt because of cricket betting. A bag was also found near the body.

It was around 7.15 am that Verma’s body was found hanging from a tree located between Rail Bhawan and the media parking centre near Vijay Chowk, close to Parliament.

An inquest has been initiated into the matter. “The reason behind his suicide is not known yet. We are also trying to get in touch with police authorities in Madhya Pradesh so that his family can be contacted,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal said.

Efforts are on to contact his relatives, police added.
