Five commandos were killed on Saturday when insurgents ambushed a police party at Napetpalli area in Manipur's Imphal East district, official sources said.
The insurgents threw bombs and opened fire from different sides at the team.
They looted four AK-47 rifles, one pistol and several rounds of ammunition from them.
The commandos, led by Sub-Inspector Jiyauddin, who was among the victims, were returning to Imphal after patrolling Napetpalli area, the sources said.
The identity of the insurgents was not yet known.
