Security has been tightened and central para-military forces deployed at various places in Imphal for the two-day visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh starting Saturday, official sources said on Thursday.
Security has also been tightened in the border town of Jiribam, 222 km west of Imphal, where the prime minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a railway line to Toupul area. He will attend a special convocation of the Manipur University in Imphal.
Vice-Chancellor Ng Bijoy Singh told reporters that the PM's visit to the university will be unique because Singh has a special interest in students and youths.
Singh will also lay the foundation stone for the Imphal capital project and attend a public rally during which the Kangla fort, currently occupied by the Assam Rifles, will be handed over to the state government.
