A 20-year-old girl, who hails from Manipur, was severely beaten by a man at Murnika, in south Delhi on Thursday evening. The girl suffered injuries on her face and eyes.

The girl went for a walk in a nearby park when a man stood in her way and allegedly tried to molest her. When she tried to retaliate, the man punched her on face, which caused her the injuries.

The girl then called up North East Support Centre & Helpline for help, a human rights group, who contacted the Vasant Vihar police station. After initial reluctance, the police finally swung into action and reached the spot, the press release issued by the NESC&H said.

What seems more atrocious is the fact that the victim and the accused were taken in the same police van to the station, a TV report claimed.

Meanwhile, NESC&H also accused of racial discrimination by the Delhi police officials when they tried to file the complaint, the statement said.

The attack comes in the wake of an alleged murder of a Naga girl in south Delhi by an Indian Institute of Technology scholar in October 2009.
