One person was killed and another injured when two motorcycle-borne assailants fired at them in the Mahim area of suburban Mumbai on Friday afternoon.
Sources said that the dead person was a local cable operator named Akbar Dadhi, while the injured is Dadhi's friend, Azim Qazi.
Eye-witnesses said that the attackers chased and accosted the victims, shot at them and tried to escape. However, an eye-witness -- Mohd Affsar Qureshi -- caught the two assailants, who are now in police custody. Cops have yet to reveal their names, but both are said to be from Bhiwandi near Mumbai.
The bike the attackers were riding appears to be a stolen vehicle and has fake number plates. The authorities have seized it.
Sources said that the incident took place near the Basar Manzil building close to the Mahim Dargah. There was a fairly large crowd in the area as people were gathering to offer their prayers on Friday afternoon.
Details are awaited.
