Due to the tremendous response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public rallies and anti-incumbency against the government of the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party, it was believed strongly that the BJP will form the government on its own by getting a simple majority in the 288-seat assembly.
But now it seems that the BJP will be surely the single largest party but may not get a majority on its own.
Praful Patel, senior NCP leader, told Rediff.com, I have been predicting that the BJP will never get a majority of its own. It seems clear the NCP will be crucial in the formation of the new government in Maharashtra.
Asked if there was a possibility of an NCP-Shiv Sena government with the Congress supporting it from the outside, Patel evaded the question saying, “Within one hour we will know the results. Let us wait and see how things move.”
