This was revealed after police recorded the statements of Mahajan's family members, including his wife and BJP leader Gopinath Munde. Rekha told police that she wanted to protect Mahajan from the gunshots Pravin fired at him but by the time she reached his gun got jammed and Pravin escaped, sources said.
Later, she rang up her daughter Poonam and brother-in-law Munde, asking them to rush to the house.
