The Maharashtra government on Wednesday said it will introduce a legislation to prevent forcible conversions of tribals.

Replying to a question in the state assembly, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil said a similar law introduced in Tamil Nadu recently is being studied carefully.

Patil was replying to Bharatiya Janata Party member Rajkumar Patel's question wanting to know what the government was doing to gather information on alleged conversions by Christian organisations in Bihali village of Amravati district
in December 2004.
