Describing the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a divisive leader, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Saturday expressed fear that the country may witness riots if he wins power at the Centre.

"Modi is a downright divisive leader who presided over riots in Gujarat in 2002...the country will be gripped by riots and communal frenzy if he wrests power at the Centre," she told an election meeting in Buxar district in favour of Dadan Yadav, the BSP nominee from Buxar.

"The onus is on the people of the country to scuttle the Gujarat chief minister's ambition to rule the country by winning the forthcoming general elections...you must ensure that Modi does not wrest power at the Centre and jeopardise the unity and integrity of the country," Mayawati said in a scathing attack on the BJP prime ministerial hopeful.

The BSP supremo, who has lent outside support to the UPA-II for five years, also questioned the BJP's commitment to bring back black money from foreign shores and said that it had an opportunity to do so while staying in power at the Centre for six years, but it did not do so.

Highlighting her government's achievement on law and order front and prevention of riots by strictly dealing with such situation at the very outset in Uttar Pradesh, she appealed to the voters of Bihar to send the BSP candidates to Parliament to enable her form the next government at the Centre.

She claimed that her government will work for the poor, downtrodden and other deprived sections, unlike the UPA and NDA coalitions which promise much, but failed to deliver while being in power at the Centre.
