December 08, 2006 13:48 IST
Nearly two months after her The Inheritance of Loss won the Man Booker Prize -- one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world -- the Indian community in New York finally celebrated Kiran Desai's awesome achievement.

India's Consul General in New York Neelam Deo and Grove/Atlantic, Inc, Desai's American publisher, hosted Thursday's celebration at the Consulate General of India for 35-year-old Desai, who lives in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City.

Deputy Chief Photographer Paresh Gandhi captures Kiran with fellow author Shashi Tharoor and her mother, the fine writer Anita Desai.
