January 05, 2006 15:12 IST

The 13-day Kalachakra-2006 ceremony was inaugurated today by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh.

The Norbulingka Institute, a cultural body of the Central Tibetan Administration (Dharmasala), led by the Dalai Lama, is organising the event at the request of Busshokai Centre, a small Japanese group of Kanazawa. The exiled Tibetan leader will offer the high tantric teaching known as the Kalachakra Empowerment for two weeks.

Over one lakh foreign visitors, including several world leaders and VVIPs, are expected to descend on the Kalachakra site, being readied on the banks of the Krishna river, 26 kilometres from Guntur.
