The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday confirmed they had arrested a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative from summer capital Srinagar in connection with the terror plot in Delhi.
A senior police officer said Omar Zargar was picked up from the old city on Saturday and during sustained interrogation he confessed his LeT links and also disclosed that he was to carry a large consignment of explosives and arms to Delhi in the last week of April for the outfits plot to strike there.
"He was, however, that time in the custody of a local police station for his involvement in the stone pelting incidents in the city."
He said Zargar was in constant touch with other LeT operatives in Delhi whose identity is being established.
A general alert had been sounded in New Delhi following intelligence inputs that terror groups were planning to carry out strikes there.
