At least 10 fishermen from this coastal town have been taken into custody by the Sri Lankan navy for reportedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line and fishing in their waters.
Five of the fishermen are those stranded at mid-sea after their boat developed a technical glitch yesterday and five others, who went in search for them, assistant director of fisheries Karthikeyan told reporters.
Their boats were seized and all of them lodged in prison in Talaimanar in Sri Lanka, he said. Meanwhile police said three other fishermen from nearby Dhanushkodi, alleged to be 'smugglers' by the Lankan navy, were arrested and lodged in Kalpatti Jail in Jaffna on Monday.
