Court takes cognisance of complaint against Lalu

A sub-divisional court in Bihar has taken cognisance of a complaint against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, which accused him of using abusive language against Lok Janshakti Party leaders during the 2005 Assembly elections.

A K Thakur, the sub-divisional judicial magistrate of Jehanabad district, has taken cognisance of the complaint under Section 504 of IPC, court officials said on Wednesday.

The court has fixed March 21 as the next date for hearing.

The complaint was filed in 2005 by Gopal Sharma, the district president of the LJP. Sharma, in his petition, had accused Lalu Prasad of using provocative and abusing language against LJP leaders.

According to Sharma, Lalu Prasad, in his speeches during the 2005 Assembly elections described LJP as a party of rapists and ruffians.
