At least two persons were killed and several feared injured on Thursday when a local train ran over them in Kolkata, General Railway Police sources said.
The mishap occurred near the city's Park Circus station when a group was crossing the Sealdah-Canning track of the Eastern Railway.
Tension ran high in the area as locals gathered near the accident site, obstructed the tracks and started pelting stones on the passing trains.
Train services on the section have been temporarily stopped, the sources added.
