Bihar Governor Buta Singh on Monday promised to do everything possible to recover an abducted school student soon.

Even 48 hours after Anand, a Class 8 student of St Karens School was abducted in Patna by unidentified criminals for ransom, police are yet to make any breakthrough in the case.

Anand Singh is the son of Indian Railways Construction International Limited Deputy General Manager B B Singh.

Singh told newspersons in Patna that the police were on the job and that he was confident his son would be freed soon. "It is painful that a school student was abducted but the police is working to free him," Singh said.

Governor Buta Singh, who promised prompt action to free the boy, however, did not give any time-frame for tracing the boy. He only promised prompt action. The police said Anand was kidnapped from Pataliputra Colony, a posh locality in Patna, on Saturday.

Anand's father said that when his son did not return home on Saturday evening after playing cricket at a nearby field, they did not suspect abduction. But when he did not return till 9.30 pm, Singh lodged a first information report at a local police station.

He denied that he had received calls for ransom from abductors. Sources close to him hinted that the abductors had demanded a heavy ransom for the release. However City Superintendent of Police, Shalin, who is heading a special police team set up by Senior Superintendent of Police Nayyer Hasnain Khan to recover the boy, said the police had got some leads in the case and a breakthrough was expected soon.

Shalin said a few persons were taken into custody for questioning but did not disclose their identities saying it might hamper the investigation.
