HC directs Vinod Khanna to vacate bungalow
March 01, 2005 16:35 IST

The Delhi high court on Tuesday directed actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna to vacate the bungalow allotted to him by the previous National Democratic Alliance government.

He has been given time till March 15.

The Urban Development Ministry is struggling to find houses for ministers of the United Progressive Alliance coalition, as a few NDA ministers are not willing to shift out.

Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar and two ministers of state, S S Palanimanickam and Rao Inderjit Singh, are without official accommodation nine months after the UPA came to power.

The ministry had sent an eviction team to Khanna's 4, Circular Road residence on February 23. But the BJP leader managed to secure a few days' extension.

Former NDA minister and Shiv Sena member of Parliament Suresh Prabhu has also not moved out of 15, Asoka Road.

Khanna's present residence has been allotted to Minister of State for Rural Development A Narendra, while Prabhu's residence has gone to Minister of State for Heavy Industries Santosh Mohan Deb.

Sources said that Khanna went to court after a habitation certificate was issued to him, indicating that the house he has been allotted -- AB 8, Purani Quilla Road -- was ready for occupation.
