UK: Deportation of Punjab militant deferred

January 30, 2006 22:17 IST
The deportation of Babbar Khalsa militant Purushotam Singh from Britain, wanted in connection with a failed plot to assassinate former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal in 1995, has been put off following his appeal in a London court.

Purushotam Singh, a close confidant of hardcore terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara, was to be deported to India on January 28. But a London court deferred his deportation till disposal of the appeal filed by him, Ambala Superintendent of Police Rajbir Deswal said.

He said the Interpol had made preparations for his scheduled deportation on January 28 but it could not be done in view of the stay ordered by the London court.
