Achuthanandan has directed Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to conduct a vigilance inquiry into the property scam involving Sreenijan. There have been media reports that Sreenijan usurped wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Sreenijan, who was a Congress candidate from the reserved seat of Njarackal constituency in Ernakulam district in the 2006 assembly elections, had declared only Rs 25,000 as his income while declaring his assets. However, in the last financial year he filed returns for Rs 25 lakh and Rs 15 lakh on behalf of his wife K B Sony.
Kerala Congress party president Ramesh Chennithala told rediff.com that the Congress was open to any investigation in the case. The chief minister's office was, however, not available for comment.'Ex-CJI must quit NHRC chairman's post'
