The body of M N Vijayan, critic, social activist and Marxist thinker, who died in Thrissur on Wednesday, was cremated on Thursday with state honours at Kudungallur in Thrissur.
His son V S Anil Kumar lit the funeral pyre in the presence of several people.
Assembly Speaker K Radhakrishnan, Forests Minister Binoy Viswam, Electricity Minister A K Balan and Revenue Minister K P Rajendran were also present.
A general strike was observed in Kudungallur before noon as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
