Canada has indicated that it could cancel the visa issued to parliamentarian Babulal Katara, who was arrested in an alleged human trafficking case, if it is established that the document was misused.

Refusing to comment on the Katara incident, Canadian High Commission said 'individuals' are issued visas on the basis of the information available with the visa officer at the time of issuance.

"However, if any information comes to light after issuance of visa about inappropriate or illegal use of a document issued by the Canadian High Commission, every effort is made to intercept and cancel the document," a High Commission spokesperson said in response to a question on Thursday.

The spokesperson said Canada, like India, takes visa frauds and illegal movement of people seriously.

Katara was caught at International Airport in New Delhi on Tuesday allegedly while taking a woman and a boy on the basis of the passports of his wife and son.
