It has been five long years, but Neelam Katara's fight for justice for her murdered son Nitish is continuing despite the media attention and public outcry.

Friends, family members and those supporting the cause of the aged mother on Saturday gathered at her house in New Delhi to remember him on his fifth death anniversary.

The mood was poignant with the gentle strains of Santoor playing in the background in a apt musical tribute to Nitish, whose portrait stood in a corner of the lawn.

Among those assembled was Chaman Lal Mattoo, the father of murdered law student Priyadarshini Mattoo, and Sabrina Lal, the sister of slain model Jessica Lal.

Urging for speedy justice, Nitish's mother said, "The court should deliver its verdicts quickly so that people do not have to wait for longer periods."

She also thanked the media and the public for their support and expressed gratitude to the family of Jessica and Priyadarshini.

The musical tribute was by family-friend Abhay Sopore, who said Nitish was like his elder brother.

"There is no better way to remember him," said Neelam.

Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav's son Vikas and cousin Vishal are accused of kidnapping and murdering Nitish over his alleged intimate relationship with their sister Bharti.
