A senior police officer said troops of 29 Rashtriya Rifles and local police jointly surrounded Goshbugh village near the highway town of Pattan in Baramulla district late Tuesday afternoon.
“The hiding militants were challenged. They opened fire at the security forces triggering an encounter at the end of which two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit were killed,” the officer said.
“The encounter is over. However, we are still searching the area. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the slain militants,” he added.
