Five militants of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit were killed in a day-long encounter near apple-rich north Kashmir's Sopore town on Tuesday.
A senior police officer said troops of counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and police surrounded Saidpora village on specific information about presence of a group of LeT militants there.
"The holed up militants opened fire at the surrounding troops triggering an encounter at the end of which four LeT militants were killed," the officer said.
"Searches are continuing in the village," he added.
Last week three militants of LeT were killed during a search operation in a forested area near Sopore.
Four troopers have also been wounded in the gun battle. Two houses were destroyed in Saidpora village during the gunfight.
