Kashmir: 2 LeT militants killed in encounter

Two militants of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit were killed in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir Pulwama district on Sunday evening, a defence spokesman said.

“Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by the Rashtriya Rifle unit and special operations group of state the police in Reshipura village of Pulwama district of south Kashmir.” the spokesman said in a statement.

“While the cordon was being laid around the suspected house, terrorists came out and opened fire on the troops, who immediately took cover and retaliated.”

“One of the terrorists was killed in the initial gunfight while the other terrorist took cover and kept on engaging the troops. The fire fight continued till another 30 minutes before the second terrorist was killed. An AK-47, one pistol and other warlike stores were recovered from the operation site.”  

“The operation was called off at 1940 hours and bodies of the slain terrorists were handed over to the police,” the spokesman said.
