The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking a direction barring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi from holding any Constitutional post in view of his reported statement against judiciary on 27 percent quota for OBCs in elite educational institutions.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran declined to entertain the PIL filed by
Chennai-based K R Ramaswamy alias Traffic Ramaswamy, who alleged that the statement made by Karunanidhi was aimed at scandalising the court and denigrate the judiciary.
The PIL mentioned the statement in which the chief minister had reportedly said that 'a situation in which a mere two
or three persons (read judges) could determine the fate and future of hundred crore people is harmful to democracy'.
The petitioner said such statement amounts to contempt and interference with the administration of justice.
