Former President APJ Abdul Kalam is likely to be the Election Commission of India's brand ambassador in a bid to increase voter turnout in the coming assembly polls in Bihar. Official sources in the state election commission told rediff.com that they had recommended Kalam as  brand ambassador.

"Kalam is set to be the brand ambassador for the Commission in Bihar to publicise about exercising voting rights" an official said.

Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said that the EC had planned to rope in a popular personality to publicise the polls, as Indian cricket captain M S Dhoni had done during the Jharkhand polls. Kalam is very popular in Bihar and his special affection for the state's development is well known.

EC officials have been trying to increase voter turnout in upcoming Bihar polls as the polling in the previous assembly polls was a dismal 46 percent.
