Journalists across the country will on Saturday hold demonstrations in protest against frequent attacks on scribes and to press their demand that the Centre form a national security policy for them.

In Delhi, members of the National Union of Journalists will hold a protest rally at Jantar Mantar against the murder of investigative journalist J Dey of Mid Day, Mumbai, and attacks on the fraternity.

A journalist' delegation will also meet President Pratibha Patil and submit a memorandum to her in this regard.

"The demonstration will be held in every state capital and district headquarter. NUJ(I) wants the Central government to form a National Security Policy for Journalists," NUJ said in a statement.

Ras Bihari, secretary-general of NUJ, said the whole nation was shocked at the death of J Dey.

"In Chhattishgarh, two journalists were killed during coverage and also journalists have been attacked in several parts of the country. A few weeks back, Press Trust of India and other media organisations were targeted in Arunachal Pradesh. We condemn the attacks against scribes," he said.
