South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson has been named the Republican Co Chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans.
He replaces Florida's Ilena Ros Lehtinen.
"I am grateful to once again serve as co-chair of the India Caucus. I appreciate Ranking Member Ros-Lehtinen's leadership, and I am excited to continue working with her and all members of the Caucus during the next two years," Wilson said in a statement.
The Republican Congressman was the Co Chair of the India Caucus during the 108th Congress.
"We have secured several recent successes -- most notably the passage of the US-India Nuclear Cooperation Promotion Act. Building on these accomplishments, I am confident the 110th Congress will prove just as rewarding," Wilson said.
Democratic Caucus members have named Congressman Jim McDermott of the State of Washington as their Co-Chair.
"I have had the pleasure of working closely with Congressman McDermott on issues affecting India, and I look forward to continuing our relationship as we strive to increase ties between the United States and India," Wilson said.
"Rep. Joe Wilson is a credit to his constituents and party, and I am delighted that he too is returning to a leadership role in the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans," McDermott said.
Our role as co-chairs will be unequivocally bi-partisan and that's in the best interests of our nation and our relationship with India" he said.
