Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was detained by authorities on Thursday, even as life was paralyzed across Kashmir valley because of the shutdown and curfew-like-restrictions in summer capital Srinagar.
The call for Thursday's strike was given by the JKLF on its founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat's death anniversary. Bhat was hanged in Delhi's Tihar jail on this day in 1984.

All the shops, businesses, government offices, banks and traffic are closed in capital Srinagar and other major towns in response to a strike call.
Police early this morning detained the JKLF chairman Yasin Malik along with senior leaders and lodged them in various police stations to prevent them leading protests in Srinagar.
JKLF supporters, however, made an attempt to takeout a procession in the Maisuma locality this morning, but were stopped by the police.
