Four potters working for the Indian army were killed and two others were seriously wounded in heavy Pakistani shelling in Taad village in Karnah sector of Kupwara district late on Friday.
Four potters identidied by police as Mohammad Yaqoob, Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad and Rajawali were killed on the spot while Bashir Ahmad and Siraj-ud-Din were injured.
The Indian army retaliated and the shelling continued till late Friday evening.
Police said the two injured potters have been admitted in hospital for treatment.
Pakistani troops also resorted to heavy shelling in Drass sector, though no one was hurt.
Meanwhile militants shot at and critically wounded a soldier of the Central Reserved Police Force at Jehangir Chowk in the uptown this morning.
Police said the soldier identified as Dev Krishan received injuries to his head and shifted to a hospital.
