The Jammu and Kashmir state government is creating a conducive atmosphere for return of Kashmiri migrants to the valley, the Legislative Council was informed on Friday.

State Minister for Transport Mangat Ram Sharma, on behalf of the revenue minister, was replying to a question from National Conference members on the safe return of migrants to the valley.

He said the state government has initiated various confidence-building measures and willing migrants would be accommodated in Sheikhpora in Budgam district, Kher Bhawani-Tulmulla in Srinagar district and Harnag of Anantnag district.

For this purpose, 200 two-room sets at these locations are being constructed, he said, adding that shrines are being renovated and upgraded at different places.

He said the state government has already enacted a law - Jammu and Kashmir protection, preservation and distress sale act, 1997 - to safeguard migrant property and to prevent its misuse and distress sale.
