Three Harkat-ul-Jehadi militants were killed in a gunbattle with troops in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir early on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off that a group of four militants were hiding in Chicha forest area of the district, 260 kms from Jammu, troops of Rashtriya Rifle launched a search and cordon operation in the area, official sources said.
Militants opened fire on the search party and in the ensuing gunbattle between the two sides, the three militants were killed.
The encounter was still going in the area.
