A soldier of the counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles was killed in an ongoing encounter with militants in the Khaimal forest area in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Wednesday afternoon.
Security forces cordoned off the area on specific information about militants present there.
During the searches, militants opened fire at the surrounding security forces. The gun-battle is still on.
