Jammu and Kashmir reported its first swine flu case on Tuesday with a girl studying in Pune testing positive for the virus at the Jammu government hospital.

The first case of swine flu was confirmed hours after the state health minister announced the state was free of the pandemic.

Divisional commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal told rediff.com that the

victim was an MBA student in Pune, who returned to hometown Jammu few days ago.

He said that hospital authorities sent blood samples of four suspected cases of flu to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi.

"The reports were received last evening. The test reports confirmed one case of N1H1virus while three others had tested negative," he said.

Kotwal said that the patient was already under treatment in the hospital.
