A police constable was injured in a suspected terrorist attack outside a shrine in busy Hari Singh High Street area of Srinagar on Friday, officials said.
Afroze Ahmed Khan, posted as personal security guard of a senior government official, was hit by two bullets in his thighs, the officials said.
Hussain was rushed to a hospital. The officials suspect that it was a militant attack. The service weapon of the injured policeman has been sent for forensic examination to rule out the possibility of his rifle going off accidentally, they said.
The area was immediately surrounded and searches were conducted. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The government official had gone to the shrine for Friday prayers when the incident took place.
