A gunbattle broke out between terrorists and the police in Sopore town of north Kashmir on Saturday evening, but there were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage.
The gunfight erupted when police cordoned off Khanduj filling station area near the Sopore bus stand after a tip-off that some militants were present there, the police said.
The terrorists, believed to be two in number, started firing indiscriminately on the police party, they said.
