JK govt to formulate contingency plan to deal with ceasefire violations

With no let up in the ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the International Border in the Jammu region, the state government is formulating a contingency plan to deal with the situation.

The direction for the contingency plan came from the state Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand after he toured the border areas near Jammu on Friday which have seen heavy exchange of fire between India and Pakistan.  

Five civilians and three paramilitary Border Security Force troopers have so far been injured in the cross border fire.

Officials said there were several ceasefire violations last night in Arnia, Samba, Hiranagar, Pragwal and Kanachak sectors. “The firing stopped on Saturday morning,” a BSF officer said.

He directed the concerned civil and police officers to be stationed in their areas and maintain close liaison with the BSF and the army so as to build confidence among the villagers and to promptly attend to any untoward incident in the area.

Responding to the problems projected by the people, Chand issued directions for ensuring round the clock availability of doctors, paramedical staff in the health centre as well setting up a mobile veterinary unit.

He said local people as well as police should maintain close liaison and the district police chief should personally supervise police establishments for prompt action during any possible event.

He said required funds under the constituency development fund) have already been released to purchase three new boats for the area and same should be expedited so that an alternate mode of connectivity is ensured.
