J&K to train cops in riot control

The Jammu and Kashmir police has decided to train its personnel in riot control following the over four-month-long unrest that has so far claimed 111 lives and left hundreds wounded. The state police chief Kuldeep Khuda had recently admitted that 'some mistakes' had been made in handling the situation.

During his visit to the police training school at Manigam in north Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Khuda said 'the syllabi for training of police needed some changes and as per the present scenario, some new things have been added in the syllabi and special attention has been to train the policemen in riot control'.

He further said that 'during the recent emerging situations our force along with other security agencies have dealt the situation very tactfully and professionally'.

"It was due to the efforts of our force that the situation was brought under control and the ill-designs of anti-national elements were foiled," the DGP said. He said that 'present situations are demanding more responsibilities from the police and the force has to ensure that law abiding people are put to least inconvenience while dealing the situations'. He said that 'police is being equipped with latest infrastructure to ensure law and order maintenance in the state'.

He urged the men and officers present on the occasion 'to devote themselves for the service of the people'.
