Ruling out any ceasefire violation from across the border, army on Tuesday ordered a court of inquiry into the death of a jawan in mysterious firing near Line of Control in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have ordered a court of inquiry into the circumstances that led to the death of the jawan Gurpreet Singh in mysterious firing at Karpan forward post near LoC in Salhotri belt of Poonch sector on Monday evening," a top army official told PTI.

The probe would look into the circumstances that led to Singh's death and also find out from where the firing had come from, he said adding, the post is deep inside LoC.

He, however, ruled out Singh being killed from firing from the other side of the border as a ceasefire is in force all along the LoC since November 26, 2003.

Posted at Karpan post near LoC in Poonch, Singh was hit by a bullet on his neck and died on the spot.
