Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad announced in Patna on Sunday that the merger of the six parties of the erstwhile Janata Parivar was certain and necessary to stop and defeat the communally inclined Bharatiya Janata Party.

“The merger is certain. We have no problem with it,” Lalu said in his initial address at the party national executive meeting in Patna.

Lalu said that merger was a move to unite the samajwadi (socialists) elements to fight against the BJP which is hell bent to divide the country on communal lines.

He said after the merger the united party will defeat the BJP in Bihar and across the country.

“There was no chance of formation of any front or alliance,; merger is the best option. There is no if or but. We will merge for sure,” he said.

Lalu said that after merger of six parties, including his RJD and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United, the combine will defeat the BJP in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls.

Lalu also made it clear that Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will be the leader of the party after the merger of six parties.

Meanwhile, a political resolution of the merger of RJD with six parties of Janata  Parivar was passed in the party's national executive.

“It is a clear message that RJD stand for merger,” a party leader said.

The RJD's meeting was attended by top party's leaders including MPs, legislators and workers from over a dozen states.

Lalu said that he will tour every nook and corner of Bihar. “I will reach out to people in remote villages to small urban pockets across Bihar soon to mobilise support to defeat BJP,” he said.
