Yoga guru Swami Ramdev is likely to impart yoga and pranayama lessons to prisoners of the Naini central jail.

According to Jailer A K Saxena, the Yoga guru would visit the central prison on the morning of January 14, where nearly 3,000 prisoners, lodged in connection with various crimes, would learn yoga and pranayama.

"Ramdev, like many other yogis, has maintained that practise of yoga and pranayama brings a radical improvement in the mental make-up of a person. Hence, the jail authorities approached him to impart his knowledge to the inmates in the jail," Saxena said.

The Naini central jail, situated across the river Yamuna, some 20 km from the city, also finds special mention in the Indian history as many leaders of the freedom struggle, including Jawaharlal Nehru, were lodged in the jail after their imprisonment by the British.

Ramdev arrived at the Kumbh mela ground on January 10 and is staying in the camp of one Swami Hansdas, where he will be conducting daily yoga classes till January 15.
