Raja Ijaz, inspector general crime of Jammu and Kashmir police, has denied comments attributed to him by Syed Talib about his father Syed Mohammad Yousuf, who died under mysterious circumstances after a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
"The comments attributed to me are totally malicious and false," Ijaz said in a statement released by his office.
Talib claimed that Ijaz told him that nothing happened at the crime branch office and whatever happened with Yousuf happened at the residence of the chief minister.
He also claimed that there were marks on the body of his father indicating that he had been beaten up badly and had died due to injuries sustained during interrogation at the chief minister's bungalow on Gupkar Road in Srinagar.
Omar Abdullah had alleged that People's Democratic Party was blowing the issue
out of proportion. "A judicial probe has been announced and I would appear before the commission to present my case," he told reporters. He even threatened to file a defamation suit against PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti for making false allegations.
